'Luvely Jubilee'

OK - so you're probably wondering what the ticket invitation on the front door is all about? Well, for a start, it has been designed by one of our students and we think it's 'Luvely Jubilee'.

To celebrate HM Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee on the 4th June 2012, beacon fires will be lit around the nation. Radcliffe Riverside students were asked to create a ticket for Radcliffe's very own Beacon Bonfire, being held at Giant's Seat and supported by the Radcliffe Rotary.

There were some fantastic entries and after a long deliberation a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place was announced.  These tickets have been printed and will be on sale around Radcliffe very soon. The winning design was created by Stephen Hughes, Mark Melling and Kurtis Gould picking up a very close second and third place respectively. Big well done to you all.

Radcliffe Against Racism

There are a variety of activities take place at Radcliffe Riverside High School with ‘Radcliffe against Racism’ being the key objective.

Former Mr England Vaughan Bailey will speak to young people in Radcliffe about his experiences and how he achieved his success. In 2O1O Vaughan was crowned Mr England after winning the title of Mr Birmingham. He has certainly come a long way since his humble beginnings growing up in Erdington. Since then Vaughan was cast for the TV series ‘The Hunks’ and following his high profile success he is now running his own acting agency for young children along with hosting industry networking events Nationwide. It is hard to believe that just a few years ago he was sleeping rough on the streets of Birmingham, struggling simply to get his next meal.

As a young black man growing up in Great Britain, Vaughan is a true inspiration to all young people. He will visit Radcliffe Riverside High School to talk to young people about his own experiences and how they can all be a part of combating racism at the same time as achieving their dreams.
